i'm afraid to do this...
o.k., i have super duper, i have a brand new external that i want to create bootable clone with...and they both just sit here.
i'm afraid to start it because i'm afraid it's going to ask for something i don't know the answer to and i am afraid i shall lose it all.. is that really all i have to do? unplug all peripherals, repair permissions, restart and upon seeing my dock just start super duper? will it hold my hand? thanks... ballerina

Ballerina -- please take a few moments to read the User's Guide, especially the section that talks about how to back up your drive. It'll only take a few minutes, and it steps you through the whole process.
To get to the guide, open SuperDuper and -- if it doesn't appear automatically -- choose Help > User's Guide. Don't worry. This isn't going to be hard at all. (I hope the external is a FireWire one!)

Let us know how it goes -- I think you'll find this is going to be easy.
