Super Duper Clone and Virtual PC
Hi again!
I'm using the program successfully, it is great, thanks much! My issue is that I recently installed Virtual PC. It was a pain to install, took a long time to setup, and I don't want to have to restart to Macintosh HD and reinstall that sucker there. I have installed quite a few other programs, and would like to update my clone. Is there an easier way to handle VPC than re-installing it on the main HD? Perhaps I should just leave it on the clone only? But is there a way to update the clone without over-writing it? OK, so you did this on the Safety Clone, right? You can "clone back" from the Safety Clone to the main drive if you're VERY CAREFUL. Here's what to do:
While booted from the Safety Clone: - First, back up the original drive in case you make a mistake. - Select the Safety Clone as the source volume, and the original drive as the destination. - Choose "Backup - all files" as the script - Choose "Smart Update" as the "During copy" method. You MUST choose "Smart Update" for this to work properly. And, whatever you do, DO NOT choose "Erase, then copy". - Perform the copy. This will update the OS and applications (including Virtual PC), but will not overwrite anything that was shared by SuperDuper!

Thanks Dave!
All done, and without a hitch, and my Safetly Clone has been updated. I tell ya, the obsessive compulsive side of me is very satisfied, what with my automated daily backups and also a nice and neat safetly clone running. ________ Honda CBR1000RR ________ Prilosec attorneys Last edited by jettrue; 09-19-2011 at 09:03 PM. |

Hey, it's all about feeling secure about the computer -- obsessive/compulsive or not!
