We've had reports of various LaCie Porsche Design drives that require multiple refreshes to show up when connected. We've also heard on occasion that Journaling can prevent them from booting as expected.
Both of these are why we generally don't recommend them, even though they're cheap -- we prefer the d2/d3 "aluminum" drives or the Little Big Disk. Anyway, you might want to try disabling journaling with diskutil; also, try simplifying your FireWire bus to only the LaCie and refresh a few times to see if it shows up...
