Backing up an NAS volume using SD

I have a 1 tb WD NAS drive that's never been backed up, so therefore I'm just asking for it. I'd like to use SuperDuper, but I can find info on backup TO a mounted volume but not FROM one.

Do I need to make a disk image first to get it backed up?

We can't back up from a network drive, only to one (and, even then, to an image stored on one).
