Question Cloning Question

Hello All,

I am about to purchase a new Intel imac, but first I must clone my present iMac G4 (running Tiger). I am copying to a new OWC Mercury Elite Pro 320GB (firewire 400/800). I have just upgraded my registered copy of SuperDuper to 2.5. I plan to use this external hard drive to back up my new computer (Time Machine). The question I have is should I partition the OWC external hard drive and clone my iMac G4 to a separate partition? Thereby using the rest of the drive as a back up drive for the new Intel imac. By the way, I plan on using the partition function of the Disc Repair application which was native to my version of Tiger.

Thanks for your help!

If you're going to use the same drive with your Intel Mac, you really should partition as "GUID", which is not boot-compatible with your Power PC Mac. So, perhaps you should first make your backup partitioned as "Apple Partition Map". Then, once you're happy with the backup, you can upgrade and migrate to the Intel Mac.

Once done, you can then repartition the drive and use it with your Intel Mac.
