Failed ownership??

This is a first!!

I went to copy my HD with all my pictures to my back up drive just like I have always done........and suddenly I get "Failed to enable ownership on Images Back UP"

Images Back UP is the name of my external drive.

I have made no changes lately to any "Ownerships" at all.
HD is is set to read and write to anyone.

What the hell is going on??
