Bugger.... this am we are back to how it was - this is strange....
All I did between it working fine last night, and not this am, was boot into my external volume and run a surface scan (Drive Genius) on the main laptop drive, then reboot into the main account. I'm creating a similar bundle on my other NAS today, to see if this issue is specific to this NAS, but I suspect it will do the same, given the other accounts aren't affected.
