Apple is pretty motivated to fix their app, and in general I don't think it's a wise move to try to replace, vs. complement, something that comes for free with every Mac, and is almost forced on users... I understand the frustration, of course, but still feel my suggestions in that post represent the best approach...and if you add online to the two things you're doing, you're pretty well covered.
