New SSD

I have a new Samsung 850 EVO I am going to install. I have backed up my HD with SD to external drive. I plan to install the new ssd. Format the ssd from recovery. Boot from my HD backup (external). Restore to ssd. Am I missing anything?

Just a few steps: name the SSD the same as the original After you boot from it, reinstall the OS at your convenience to recreate a fresh recovery volume.

Just curious. I renamed my bootdisk back to original as you recommended, but why did I have to do this?

To ensure that any applications that reference the drive using the volume name are satisfied.
