possible to exclude folders from target?

Well, that's my question. I need to be able to use SuperDuper! for cloning my PowerBook, but without erasing some specific folders on the external Firewire disk (music, movies etc.)
Is that possible?

Thanks for advicing a new user,
Alex

Two possibilities:

First, use a product like iPartition -- which we've tested in-house -- to repartition your external Firewire disk into a "Data" partition and a "Backup" partition of appropriate size. iPartition can do this without erasing the drive.

If that doesn't work for you, you can use a Sparse Image to store the backup. We've got a FAQ entry -- "How do I update an image?" -- that covers this in some detail.

Hope that helps!

Thumbs up

So, I'm coming back. I used iPartition, and despite a bad review in a magasine (can't remember which), this app works perfectly. I was wondering for long time when such a non-distructive partition app will appear, and the first sign that's possible was the e-drive of TechToop pro.

Anyway, I repartitioned my external HD, then cloned my PowerBook HD to one of partition, and now I'm happy and safe! It's really cool, even the TechTool pro is working while booting from external HD.

Very nice app that SuperDuper!, happy that I pay it. Congratulations for developer(s),
Regards from .ro,
Alex

Glad you had success, Alex -- we've also had good luck with iPartition in house. I think it's a good product, and I'm glad you found the same.

Thanks for the compliments as well: I'm pleased you're happy!
