2.75mb/s back up speed

Hi

Newbie question:

Bought an iomega 500gb usb hard disk and using super duper trial version (i I intend to buy after to activat smart update) am trying to do my first back up to a partition formatted using disk utility in correct format.

The transfer rate is 2.75 mb/s

I've looked through the posts and found one where 8mb/s is considered slow.

On the box the doc says USB transfer 480 mb/s

Is this normal ? Should I stop the back up ?

Thanks

Simon

It's 2.75MB/s, not Mb/s. 8x difference there, Simon. USB's speed, though, is a protocol level streaming speed, and is never really reached in practice.

Im having the same problem. SuperDuper is transferring at 3.54 MB/sec. I know USB 2.0 is rated at 480 Mb/sec, but thats 60 MB/sec max. In realy life you dont get this of course, but I should be getting at least 20-30 MB/sec.

Any ideas?

4-6MB/s is what I'd expect over USB, actually... remember, tiny files, their directory information, metadata, etc are being copied. Much slower than a big streamed file.
