I have to thank the author of SuperDuper He took the time on a Sunday to answer multiple questions about this problem that happened with CCC not his product and on sunday no less. Of course I bought the product as a thank you.

It seems that somthing happended while cloning either when my powerbook battery was exausted or I accidently triggered to CCC runs while being distracted by wife and newborn....

After doing a sudo du -h -d 1 / it was obvious that semi hidden /volumes has an extra 29gb from my back up volume.

The Trick was to use GO TO from the finder. I did have to use one of the delete utilties e.g. "trash it" to deal with locked files on the folder...
