Unhappy restore freezes at "Enabling Permissions"

hello,

i backed up my macbook pro harddrive to an external, rebooted from the external and now trying to restore by backing up all files from a read-only image of the disk to the internal hd.

the problem occurs at "Enabling Permissions" stage. the backup simply freezes. i waited over an hour and it didn't pass this stage (and i don't see any activity of the harddrive). the log doesn't report any error.

what could be the problem? (is it because the image is read-only? i didn't have any problems with it before)

thanks.
