Accessing source image on fileshared XP
Hi
How do I get access to my source image located on a PC running XP with filesharing from my Mac when booted on the OS X 10.4 installation DVD: I started Disc Utility, marked the internal HD and clicked the restore tab. I came so far as writing smb://10.0.0.3 in the source field but that did not work. Anybody know how to do? |

Do any of your servers show up in the file browser?
I don't think that the DVD allows full access to the network from the DVD. From what I can tell, ASR can stream from an HTTP server, but you can't mount an image over the network unless you have more of a network stack running. You can probably create a bootable "device" with DasBoot (from SubRosaSoft) and use that to mount up the XP server...

No servers showed up in the file browser. However I managed to solve the problem by installing XP’s HTTP server IIS. I put the source image in the webb root catalog. Booted from the DVD and in Disc Utility’s restore tab source field put the address http://XP IP-adress/backup.sparseimage and start the restore.
