Verify Disk in Disk Utility freezes the system
I made a copy from my mbp on an external hd.
After an update problem in the original internal hd I restored the image seamlessly (sigh) except for one thing. I can verify with Disk Utility neither the internal hd when booting from it nor the external hd when booting from it. The system crashes (almost) immediately. It is possible to verify the external disk booting from the internal and viceversa. I'm using SuperDuper! 2.1.4 v82 on osx 10.4.11 . I repaired both disk and permissions with no results. Any hints? |

The system crashes? That's weird, certainly. Do you get a kernel panic? Anything interesting in the panic.log?

Dave,
fortunately after verifying the hd with Disk Utility I left the mac running for a while and got Verifying volume “Mac HD” Checking HFS Plus volume. Checking Extents Overflow file. Checking Catalog file. Incorrect number of thread records Checking multi-linked files. Checking multi-linked files. ng Catalog hierarchy.",0) Checking Extended Attributes file. Checking volume bitmap. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair Checking volume information. Checking volume information. E,"Invalid volume free block count",0) (It should be 5723644 instead of 5723642) The volume Mac HD needs to be repaired. Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit 1 HFS volume checked Volume needs repair after repairing the internal hd and the clone everything went fine (I missed repairing...) Cheers... |

one more thing...
verifying the disk just takes too long, and the system seems to have crashed, then I can do nothing before it finishes, I don't know if this an issue or not on a 111GB hd (89 used), probably it needs to be defrag, any ideas? |

It's pretty weird that it would crash like that... but if your copy went OK, I'd probably start up from your OSX DVD and erase *AND ZERO* the drive. Once done, then restore your (checked, yes?) copy and go from there.
