beginner's question

hi
I would like to keep my photos, music and garage band projects on one of the partitions I created on the external drive, to free some space on the HD.

1 - Could someone tell me step by step how to do that ?

2 - If I do that, I would not have them any more on the HD, would I ?
but the iPhoto, iTunes and GB applications would still be there, right ?

3 - then, I just work with them when I need to and do a smart update of the partition holding my data, with SD ?

you see, I'm really

thank you if you can shed some light!

Legaltocarry has given you the info on how to do it. I just wanted to say that about your questions #2 and #3, the answers to both are "yes."

If you want to, once those photos and that music are on a partition (volume) of your external drive, you can also back up THAT volume, via SD, to another hard drive if you wish.

About partitioning your external drive, there is much information here, just search, or open Apple's Disk Utility and then use the "Help" menu.

Smile thanks

thank you to both of you for these quick answers !
I'll check the mentionned articles.

More questions:
So… would you advise to do a back up of the system before I move pictures, music etc to a partition on the external drive or after ?

What about a sandbox ? in that case wouldn't it be the reverse (creating one after I removed them) since the users files are shared with the HD and all those pictures, music etc would then be erased ? (did I understand how a sandbox works? )

I have made 4 partitions on my FW external drive. When I'm sure that Tiger works fine, and I have a bootable back up of it, I'll be able to free the Panther partition (100GB). For the moment, I still have 2 partitions of about 50GB and 1 partition of 100GB.

thanks again

This is definitely not how a Sandbox works; don't mess with that between the two major OS versions.

Red face making clear ?

HI
I think I was not clear, sorry:
I'm thinking of creating 1 bootable back up of my HD on 1 partition of the external FW drive.
and, one sandbox on another partition. I'm not planning to do anything between these two partitions.
