Help Installing Tiger

I have an iMacG5-20, and Iomgea 160 GB External Hard Drive. Have had SD about a week and like it. I have total back up of my OS 10.3.9 Hard Drive and am about to install Tiger. I plan to unplug the Fire Wire connection to the External HD before installing, but I am not sure why.

1. Any suggestions about the External HD before I install?

2. Any reason I cannot do a complete Smart Update after the installation?

Sorry to be a Nervous Nellie, but this back up thing is important to me.

Hi, Dick. Don't just unplug the drive: make sure you eject it.

No reason you can't Smart Update the backup, but if you're worried about Tiger perhaps you should test things out before overwriting your backup.

I'd suggest one other thing: verify that you've got the most recent firmware for the drive before you update.

Hope that helps!
