Slow copy speeds

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is normal for a computer this old but it does seem awfully slow.

Backing up a 2009 13" MBP 2.26GHz Core2duo to a 1tb portable drive. It is copying over at about 5mb/sec. Does this seem right? Its going to take about 18hrs for 350gb

USB? Have you added the drive into the Spotlight preference pane's "Privacy" tab? Any Antivirus involved?

Hi Dave, it's been going a half hour and it's moved up to 20Mb/sec so that is slow but a lot better. I've just added it to the privacy pane now but it didn't seem to make much difference. Yes USB.

Is 20MB/sec what you'd call normal for a 5400 portable drive?

Yes, that's quite fast for USB.
