the Disappearing Drive trick--

I've been using SD on an external OWC drive for a couple years now with no problems. Smooth as butter. Last night, after doing a successful scheduled backup and other computer-related work, I shutdown the machine for the night as usual.

This morning, I startup my Mac as usual, and... ACKHH!! The external drive with my usual SuperDuper bootable backup has disappeared from my Desktop! Pffft! Blown away to the HitherYonders! Is there any thing you Gurus can think of that I might have done? Here's some facts:

--The power light is on and I can hear the drive spinning, as we speak.
--I'm the only user.
--I leave the ext drive "on" all night.
--I didn't have any Overnight things happening.
--I have an UPS hooked up and everything seemed OK this morning.
--It's a very reliable G-Technology drive hooked-up to my 24" iMac.

It's probably something simple, but it's driving me nuts!
