I was using carbon copy cloner, but when I went to try to smart update apparently it is broken too. I get an error mounting an existing sparse image. So for 10.5.1 there is no smart copy option beyond time machine.
I'm using time machine hourly to my Linux server and trying to be patient waiting for Superduper. Sheldon
