Backup of dual boot drive osx86
Hi, I've been using SuperDuper on my MacBook for a number of years now. And - what can I say - I sleep really well at night.
I have recently build a very nice and stable OSX 10.5.7 system with PC components (I hear the booohs already) and I'd like to back it up with SD. One hitch: I am using two 1,5TB drives (one internal, one via USB) partitioned 200, 300, 500, 500 (the 200 partition being MS-Wxx boot and the 300 partition being OSX boot. Will SD work in this environment? Cheers from Germany, Volker |

You'll have to try it, Volker. While SD! should work, it won't be able to copy Windows volumes, and any special boot loaders won't get applied (I do not/will not specifically support hackintoshes, but I don't endeavor to make SD! not work, either).

Hi Dave,
thanks for your reply. I have since dropped the dualboot idea (since I use Parallels anyways) and installed 10.5.8. I have an internal 1.5 TB drive and a USB connected 1.5 TB drive. Both drives are partitioned identically (500 GB System, about 900 GB data remainder). Backup with SD! worked fine. I cannot restore though. If I select the 500 GB System backup partition as source, the 500 GB System partition is grayed out. I therefor cannot select the job type either. Perhaps SD! cannot restore drives with multiple partitions? Thanks again for your help... Best regards, Volker |

You can't restore to a drive you're running from... perhaps you're trying to do that?

Well, since the Chameleon boot manager does not allow for a boot off of a USB device, I won't be able to restore my system volume that way. So I'll have to free the external drive from it's housing (unfortunately, this will destroy the housing) but it will let me boot of the then newly installed internal SATA drive. For about 30 euros I can get a swap frame setup and the copy speed should also improve! Thanks again for your speedy reply - although I should have known better... |
