Boot from external HD

I am trying to run boot camp on my macbook, but received an error saying that I have to reformat the disk and restore. Im in college and my leopard disk is several hours away at home. So, im trying to use SuperDuper to back up then restore the everything back onto my computer. I want to make sure that this will work and I will not lose anything or the OS X. I think this will work using Sandbox, but if anyone can reassure me and help with the settings that would be great.
