New MacBooks and USB HDs

Hi,
I'm just about to install a few new [macbooks 250Gb HDs], and [iMacs 1Tb HDs] for a customer. Of course, these new macbooks don't now come with firewire at all!
I'm planning to be setting up SD on each one so that they have up to date clones when rebuilds are needed - it's a school with many users per mac.

My question is - are there any specific external USB drives to avoid using on the macbooks because they won't boot afterwards or am I worrying unnecessarily? Or any that you do recommend?

I know that the new iMacs have a firewire 800 port and I remember that some firewire drives had problems booting their clone. So same question for the 1Tb drives too really.

Thanks, Paul
