Filevault backup over network

The instruction manual advises you to switch to a second account when doing a backup of a Filevault encrypted User Folder but what about when you are doing the backup over a network using Sparse Image? Is this going to be a valid backup?

I confess that I've been doing this and it seems to be OK but I wondered if it was. Since this backup is to a HD that is our home backup I'm not worried about it being saved encrypted. My only concern is that it be a valid backup.
