Failed to preserve Spotlight?

I have been using superduper for years. I have not backed up in 10 days and now I can't drag, cut and paste on my macbook. I want to do a backup in case I have to reinstall OS or something serious. I'm getting the message "Failed to preserve spotlight state on backup" in red. What is spotlight, do I need this? I cant seem to bypass it. Is there anyway to do a back up or should I pass and live with my last 10 day backup, thanks.

Sounds to me like you're missing your /tmp folder, actually. Have you tried repairing permissions and restarting your Mac?
