SuperDuper! cannot find target volume "Backup"

Dave Nanian,

Mac OS 10.4.11, SuperDuper 2.5. I received this message after a successful smart updated backup. SuperDuper! cannot find target volume "Backup". I do not understand how to proceed with the following information: Please attach or mount the volume named "Backup". If you can't find this volume, or it was erased outside SuperDuper!, click Cancel. I clicked cancel, and from here on I need help.

Thank you.

OK. So, from there, choose the proper drive in the pop-up. Is it not available?

Dave,

The external drive is not an option as a start-up drive.

I didn't indicate that it was -- you were trying to pick it in SuperDuper, correct?

Dave,

The external Maxtor drive does not show either as an option in Disk Utility or as a drive in the start up disk window.

Thanks,
Par

OK. So, if the drive doesn't show up at all, perhaps you've had some sort of hardware failure. Power everything off, including your Mac and peripherals. Wait a few, then power back on and see if the drive shows up.

Dave,

I tried your suggestion, and I am still not seeing the Maxtor OneTouch II external hard drive.

Thanks,
Par

I can only suggest that the drive has failed in some physical way. Perhaps contact Maxtor?

Dave,

I discovered the external hard drive failed. When I purchased another external hard drive will I be able to use the my present SuperDuper program that I purchased with the new drive?

Thanks,
Par
