From Black Macbook to Macbook Pro
Hi
I sold my black macbook 2 months ago and just bought a macbook pro. Both are the same version of the OS. I had backed up my old macbook with superduper on an external hdd and tested it before I sold it. Worked without problems. Now, I tried to boot from the external drive on my new macbook pro and it refuses to boot. Is this because of the difference in hardware? Is there any way to make it work? Thanks for your help! |

You need to start the new MBP from its original, CLEAN installed OS (from the discs that came with it) and, when first prompted to copy from another mac, point it at the backup to bring in your data.
(It comes with a special build of OSX.)

Ok. I bought the new macbook pro on ebay and it has vista installed and OSX already installed.
So in essence I need to boot from the OSX disc, choose to do a clean install and when it starts up following the install I use the disc migrate tool. Is that correct? Can I do this without wiping Vista off the hdd? Any tips? Is there somewhere I can donate to this forum as this has saved me a lot of time.... Thanks! |

That's right, boot from the disc and clean install it to the OSX partition, which shouldn't touch your Vista half.
Your SuperDuper! registration is donation enough, monkeybrain.
