Rebuilding Full Backup Directory

I have rebuilt the directory on my main drive using DiskWarrior.

Is there a preferred option of how one should rebuild the directory on an existing full SD backup (external drive)?

(1) Run Smart Update, or

(2) Rebuild the directory by using DiskWarrior that's installed on Macintosh HD?

Your next backup will 'take' any of the changes made to the directory; there's no need to run it on your backup (or your source) unless you're experiencing issues.
