Backup of iMac G4 failing . . . any help?

I'm trying to backup my iMac G4 (1.25 Ghz). I'm trying to back it up to a Western Digital My Book (don't recall which one exactly). I've used this disk to back up a Macbook with no problems this morning. Now, backing up the iMac, it slows to a crawl then fails. The HDD is only 2-4 months old and was zeroed out and formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) this morning before backing up the MacBook.

The iMac prepares to copy just fine. However, a "failed to copy" message comes up. Copy speeds are listed at .53mb/sec. (compared to MacBook of 12-15 per sec).

Any info would be much appreciated. What can I do next?
