Only want to copy system and applications

I want to use superduper to create a bootable disk on my LaCie 120GB
external firewire hard drive. I have 60 GB partitioned for that use.

The only items from my boot drive I want to copy are the system (10.3.9)
and my applications. I have been using retrospect to make backups of my users folders (containing my documents) to external hard drives for the past two years so I don't need superduper to copy my users folder.

I've read the manual but I don't understand how to create a script to do this.

Could you please tell me how me this is accomplished?

Thanks

John

The problem, John, is that you can't boot a drive without the Users folder: it just won't work. I can tell you how to do it, of course, but I'm not sure it'll accomplish what you're trying to do.

What do you want this backup to do?

Dave,

I want to be able to quickly get back to full operation should my boot drive crash. Also, I don't want to have to reinstall all my programs.

Can I eliminate the documents from my users folder in the script. There is
not enough space on the drive I want to copy to for my documents besides
I already have thenm backed up in duplicate.

John

OK, so, let's do that. Note that if you exclude your Documents folder and you're relying on Retrospect to restore the rest... you might have to rebuild your catalog, so be careful.

So, here's what to do:

- Choose "File | New Copy Script"
- In the first tab, enter a description. This'll be displayed in the "What's going to happen?" section of the main UI.
- In the 2nd tab, include "Backup - all files"
- In the third, navigate to your Documents folder and click add. Then, edit the line in the table to be:

Users/*/Documents/*

The command in front should be "ignore".

- Save with an appropriate name, and use instead of "Backup - all files"

Hope that helps.
