what does "ignore" mean

I noted some items that were "ignored" during backups according to the logs.

I know that some backup programs will not accept folders, files or text that are marked with asterisks, wrong quotation marks, and certain diacritical insertions deliberately or inadvertently made. Does Super Duper apply similar exclusions hence the notation file or data "ignored?" If this is so then what specifically would produce the exclusion?

Or, does this reference refer to the items that the manual says that Apple does not allow be included in the backup process?

Or does "ignore" apply to both conditions?

Again Dave thanks for such a great piece of work as Super Duper. Eagerly awaiting version 2.

Ignored definitely means "not copied" , but it's not because of the name. We don't have restrictions on the naming of files.

Ignored files are the ones that we don't copy because they have no meaning across a reboot, or interfere with booting on different machines. All can be regenerated automatically by the system, so there's nothing to worry about.

(You can see an explicit list of all ignored files by examining the copy scripts, if you're interested.)

Hope that helps!
