Photo Backup Strategy

Long time user here... SuperDuper just works!

So I am interested in making backups of my extensive photo libraries. The scenerio is this: an iPhoto library on the "family" computer, and a LightRoom Library on my trusty 2011 Macbook Pro 17". I have an external drive dock that I can use 2.5" and 3.5" bare drives with. What I would like to do, is initally backup JUST the photos, then from that day forward incrementally back them up. To that end, I have formatted a 1TB bare bones HGST drive into two equal partitions - one for each library. I have manually copied each library to its respective partition. This is where I think I might be going wrong... can you steer my process to the correct conclusion? Both Mac's are running 10.13.

Thanks.
