Getting hung up while backing up
During the backup process I am getting hung up. It stops on one file and will not progress. this is what the log says:
| 10:57:47 AM | Info | WARNING: Caught I/O exception(28): No space left on device | 10:57:47 AM | Info | WARNING: Source: /Volumes/OSXRaid/Users/SWTechTeam/mharrell/County_ArcHydro/Layers/fil/w001001.adf, lstat(): 0 | 10:57:47 AM | Info | WARNING: Target: /Volumes/LaCie Disk Two/Users/SWTechTeam/mharrell/County_ArcHydro/Layers/fil/w001001.adf, lstat(): 0 | 10:57:47 AM | Info | Attempting to copy file using copyfile(). | 11:12:47 AM | Info | Attempting to copy file using ditto. I am backing up about 400GB from an XServe to a 1 TB Lacie Disk. The capacity of the Xserve is only 700GB, so it shouldn't be a space problem. It is backing up only changed files and this is a process that I have been using for quite a while. Normally it works with no problem. I'm assuming there is something it doesn't like about the w1001001.adf file, but I'm not sure what? Thanks Tom |

Oh yeah. It's an Xserve G5 running OS x 10.4.8.

Was it being written to at the time of the backup? If not, did you try duplicating this particular file, erasing the original and renaming the copy? Is the LaCie actually full when you look at it?

Actually my LaCie isn't full, but it's close. There's only 400mb free, so something went awry when the backup failed, otherwise there should be about 500GB free. I suspect this is now the cause of the problem, but I'm not quite sure how to recover the missing space on the LaCie.

Check the file listed above on the LaCie...

That file wasn't there, but my LaCie still wasn't reporting the free space correctly, so I decided to do a full backup where it erases the drive first.
All was well, it got past the troublesome file. The at the very end I get this: | 04:00:09 PM | Error | SDCopy(916) malloc: *** vm_allocate(size=8421376) failed (error code=3) | 04:00:09 PM | Error | SDCopy(916) malloc: *** error: can't allocate region | 04:00:09 PM | Error | SDCopy(916) malloc: *** set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug Looking at the LaCie I have my space back. it reports 500GB free, but now I'm still not getting a back up? |

After spending some more time reading the threads. I'm going to try the ACL fix now (turn that off).

That's exactly what I was going to suggest.
