Restoring A Hard Drive, Based on Sparse Image
Background: Sparse Image R&W is on External HD. Apple wiped the HD when trying to figure out a bug. My mac is now returned to me. I want to restore the computer to the way it was AKA make the mac (15" MBP Feb08 Revision) to be the same info as it was before, what I backed up to the sparseimage file.
So, I tried booting from the Mac OS X install disc, and that wouldn't let me pick the Sparseimage to restore from. And of course I can't drag Macintosh HD to destination when I try and run Disk Image when booted up on my MacBook Pro's HD. Right now I'm copying the R&W sparse image to a Read Only sparse image, thinking that might help. I doubt that, though. I feel like I'm a moron, that I'm missing something completely obvious. HELP!?!? Thank you. |

Sorry, Henry: missed the post somehow.
You need to open the sparse image, as explained in the User's Guide, with Disk Utility. Once open, then you drag the mounted image volume into the source. You should then be able to drag/select the destination in the 2nd pop-up. Alternatively, if you have a second Mac, you can put the Mac you want to restore in FireWire target disk mode and use SuperDuper! to restore. Hope that makes sense.

And it's fixed and done, there we go. Thank you very much.
