SmartUpdate - does anyone know the answer?

Here's a question for anyone who's "in the know" about SuperDuper...

I've got a 750GB Drive I need to back-up with SuperDuper...

Let's say I use a 500GB Drive I already own to back-up the 100GB of data on my 750GB drive. Then, a month from now my 750 GB drive has a mechanical failure and needs replaced. Once I buy a replacement 750GB drive, can I Smart-Update it from the 500GB drive using SuperDuper, and have everything work OK? OR, to use SmartUpdate, must the two drives be identical in size?

Can someone please help on this?

Thanks,
Mark

The two drives do not need to be identical in size. In all cases SuperDuper only requires (logically) that the destination volume be as large or larger than the DATA on the source volume which is being copied/cloned to the destination.

Note that on the first use of the new 750, in your example, you would NOT use Smart Update to transfer the data to it, but rather "erase then copy" using "backup all files." From there on out, you could Smart Update either volume from the other, depending on which of them you plan to use day-to-day as your running System volume.
