sdbackupbytime

My apologies if this has been covered, I did check.

sdbackupbytime is hogging most of my available memory. If I force it to quit it comes back with a far lower demand on the system but seems to be triggered by the scheduled update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve made some sort of mistake in date calculation w/r/t Summer Time ending, and it’s causing sdbackupbytime to use 100% CPU.

Temporarily turn scheduling off (edit schedule, uncheck entry) until I get it fixed. Working on it now.

You'll be able to turn it back on tomorrow - and once the update comes out (I'm hoping today) it won't happen again.

I'm sure you know by now, but I've released v3.2.3 of SuperDuper with a fix for this and additional features, too...

I'm using the latest version. I noticed high memory usage of sdbackupbytime today. I forced quit. It reappeared automatically and started using a lot of memory again. I'm going to reboot and see if it clears.

I happened to notice this at the same time I'm running Mac Disk Utility and performing a secure erase on an external drive that is not part of the SuperDuper backup schedule.

As I indicated in the other thread, change your backup time so it's not in the 2-3am range (eg use 3:05)…

Thank you. I've changed all my schedules and have manually kicked off all backups now. I'm still seeing a lot of memory usage.

Using iStat Menus on my Mac, I see that for the last 30 days my memory pressure was low and steady. This observation of sdbackupbytime all of the sudden using lots of memory started occurring today 3/7/2019 at 2:30am ET which was the most recent scheduled backup that began this morning.

I will complete my manually started backups now and then reboot and check again.

Try restarting your Mac. But if it's at 2:30am, you need to move the schedule either before 2 or after 3.

I deleted all schedules, set new schedules outside the suggested time frames, reran all backups manually, rebooted my Mac. Success. Thank you.
