Lost data using migration assistant for MB Air
I used migration assistant to transfer SD! data from backup drive to new Macbook Air (June 2011). All the data made it except for a number of crucial documents on my Favorites folder on the Finder sidebar. Now the Favorites folder is unresponsive (cannot be selected) and the original data is missing. Unfortunately, I backed up the new MB Air to the same backup drive using SD! Now I have two drives with missing data and no other backups. Is there a way to recover the missing data?

If you boot from the original backup, is the data there? I don't know why things would be "unresponsive" - remember, of course, that the shortcuts are referring to regular files on your drive...

I haven't tried booting from the backup drive, which I will do shortly. The backup drive does not show any of the missing files.

Sorry, I just realized I can't boot from the backup drive--MB Air only has USB connectivity--last time I checked, SD! booted only via Firewire.

No, Intel Macs can boot from USB or FireWire. Power PC Macs can't boot from USB.

The missing data is not on the backup drive (which is overwritten). I'm having someone retrieve the lost data from the hard drive, if possible.
