Install SD on spouse's iMac?

I just realized that DH only has a TM backup on his Mac. I think he should have SD also. I'm purchasing an external drive for that purpose. My question:

Can I install SD on DH's Mac using the same serial number? Or do I have to purchase another copy for him?
