Sorry to be a pest, but I have a couple more questions:
1. Are you using an SMB or AFP share for your sparse image backup?
2. What model ReadyNAS do you have?
The reason why I ask is that I was using the currently released firmware and AFP on a ReadyNAS 600. If that configuration works for you and not for me, then something else must be causing the problem.
