Crystal clear clarification

1. Currently using 10.5.2 with case-sensitivity and SuperDuper and everything installed, on boot volume LEOPARD.
2. Run SuperDuper to clone boot volume LEOPARD to external drive volume LEOPARD.
3. Format boot volume to just HFS+ with journaling.
4. Install 10.5.
5. Update to 10.5.1 and 10.5.2.
6. Boot to external volume LEOPARD.
7. Run SuperDuper and clone FROM external TO boot volume but using Smart Update.

But, if I have case-sensitivity and clone to the external, doesn't that preserve case-sensitivity on the external volume? Or, does that not matter because my new target, the new boot volume, is without case-sensitivity and apparently SmartUpdate will take all of my data and put it on the new NO case-sensitivity boot volume smartly, preserving NO case-sensitivity?

I apologize for dragging this out and diving into the deep details but I want to make sure I got this right and understand what's happening before I blow away my boot volume (even if it is cloned to an external drive).
