Best way to restore

Hi,

I have been using SD to do my backups for quite some time. I can boot to my external disk (like i'm doing right now).

The problem is i needed to reformat my mbp's disk cause i wanted to use BC. I then copied everthing back to the prim disk. Things did not go so well. Of course the primary disk refused to boot so i did a clean install and told OSX to get my users from another partition (my external disk with all my backups).

Everthing is not so smooth as butter right now (all sorts of errors and patches, updates all missing) and i wonder if i could erase my primary HD again and restore my OSX (with all the patches and updates) included.

Could i do an image of my external HD with SD and use OSX restore feature to bring back my primary partition the way it was? Or i'm SOL and should do a clean install again, patch it and re-install every apps, docs, photos, music, etc?

Thanks for your help.
