Creating a partition to run legacy OS (Mavericks)

I just bought the latest model of MacBook Air (2017 model). I would like to partition its HD and have Mavericks running in that 2nd partition.

I have a similar 2-partition setup on my 2010 MBAir (i.e., Mavericks & Snow Leopard).

I just heard (from an Apple Forum) that this kind of setup will no longer work on Apple notebooks. Is that true??!? IOW, I cannot have one partition running High Sierra and another running Mavericks?

Before I go through the hoops to partition and attempt to restore from my SDuper backup of my Mavericks system, I'd like to find out if this plan will work.

Thanks in advance.
