Yes, I am currently using encrypted diskimages for this backup set.
I'm trying to plan for the (somewhat unlikely) possibility of accessing these backups from a non-macOS system. Although, I don't actually have such an environment to play with.
I suppose my online backups would cover this situation.
I'm just trying to plan for the unexpected.
