One thing I have been doing is maintain at least two SuperDuper clones. I use external SSDs, the updates are very fast. I alternate between the two clones. This way I always have two working clones, done at different times.

I also have at least two Time Machine backup disks, alternating.

And specific important files are also manually copied into cloud storage.

This past year, we had a 2013 Macbook Air internal SSD fail, and a 2011 Macbook Air is starting to show degraded SMART parameters in the extended (long) DriveDX tests, as well as in the detailed SMART listing from TechTool Pro. With our backups, we have easily transitioned to new Macbook Pros.
