problem backing up drive

Evening all: I am trying to back up the internal drive on my MacBook Pro (running 10.4.11), which is crashing frequently. I'm trying to do this before taking it in to Apple to get fixed.Because it keeps crashing, I'm running it in target disk mode, connected to another mac and trying to back it up from there. But when I run it in full backup mode, I get an error at the same point:

| 08:34:26 PM | Info | /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/usr
| 08:37:01 PM | Info | WARNING: Caught I/O exception(22): Invalid argument
| 08:37:01 PM | Info | WARNING: Source: /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/usr/share/man/man3/.BC.JBcH2t, lstat(): 0
| 08:37:01 PM | Info | WARNING: Target: /Volumes/This/usr/share/man/man3/.BC.JBcH2t, lstat(): -1
| 08:37:01 PM | Info | Attempting to copy file using copyfile().
| 08:37:01 PM | Info | Attempting to copy file using ditto.
| 08:37:01 PM | Error | ditto: can't get real path for source

I'm not up on this sort of thing enough to figure out what the problem is here. Anybody got any ideas? I'd like to back up as much of the data on this drive as possible before I take it in...
