This doesn't address most of your question because I'm not geeky enough (I am a geek just not in this respect) to make my own scripts for SuperDuper.

Sorry, I didn't realize that the log event would get deleted with the failed schedule, so, I don't have the log. It did say something about failed permissions and I wonder if this 'wake event' thing...
