Double backups
I've got the same problem. Two backups from one schedule, both of which are successful. I'm glad Dave has a fix, but I don't know what it is!

Booting other machines from SD backup?

Since I needed to do a minor DiskWarrior (DW) repair, I was checking the forums for information on DW and SD. Your reply above is interesting. Does it mean that SD does not backup the...

SD Clone hosting DiskWarrior?
Dave, I havent seen this explicitly discussed in the forum. Sorry if I am mistaken.
My iMac had long used SD, cloned to a Firewire 800 HD. Boots reliably. The iMac, and hence the clone, has...

Two other best practices
For a novel, your really should use TM in addition to SD, since revisions will be done very often. You never know when you'll want to "reinsert that paragraph you deleted last month".
You might...

SuperDuper can boot from a G-Drive
G-Drives are nice looking (Mac-looking?) hard drives with Firewire. I can confirm that you can boot SuperDuper from them. (Mine is a 500GB Quad interface).
