Smart Update Takes A Long Time

I'm doing a Smart Update right now and it seems to be hung up in the Copy Files mode (#2 of the process)..I can see the glassy blue-barometer and it's not moving, nor is the "xxxxx of xxxxxxxx files...

I can't seem to "uncheck" this in the box. Everytime I do..and the system starts up to do its daily backup copy...this "Advanced" feature keeps re-checking by itself. Also, how do I clear out the...
