If it will run natively on silicon, what prevents it from running on my silicon machine? I guess I don't understand how license validation relates to this, and why a license has anything to do with...

Rosetta?

In your blog, you say "Users on Apple silicon systems with older (pre-2019 or so) licenses will need to either purchase a new license or run under Rosetta." But I think I have an old license, and yet...

OK, the external drive is a LaCie Quadra d2 500GB enclosure that I replaced the drive in several years ago. It has always worked transparently for SuperDuper bootable backups with my previous Intel...

OK, making some progress here. I erase-then-copy to my external backup disk, which I gather puts an OS on it. Then I smart update to that disk. Now, when I Power-Boot, I am offered that external...

Hmm. I guess I did miss that. Thank you. But OK, my container backup disks are already all APFS. I do a Smart Update to them, which is supposed to be the same as "Erase then copy", and I get a...

no more bootable backups???

Maybe I'm missing something, but how do you do a bootable backup with SuperDuper? I spent a decade or so on Mountain Lion, and it worked beautifully. Now I've migrated to Big Sur and I can't get my...

need to have Admin privileges

Yep, tried that last night and it worked. In order to do unsupervised scheduled backups with Big Sur, you need to give yourself Administrator privileges. Quite bizarre. Thanks for figuring that out.

No, I am not logged in as Admin, but in principle, I could just give myself Admin privileges.

The bottom line question here is whether unsupervised scheduled backups can even be done anymore in...

"Unless screen is unlocked"? Does that mean the screen has to be active? If so, does that mean that a scheduled SuperDuper run has to be done with a scheduled "wake", in that the machine has to be...

odd messages about making changes

I do a SuperDuper! scheduled backup every night. In the last week or so, some odd things have been happening. I get up in the morning, and am confronted by a "diskutil wants to make changes" message,...

Well, it worked fine last night, so maybe it just does that unexpected prompting occasionally. I'll just cross my fingers.

OK, thank you. So I want the lock clicked shut to (hopefully) allow unsupervised backups. But I too have been seeing that unexpected prompting with Big Sur. If I keep having problems, I guess I'll...

I have not given my account Admin privileges, but I guess I could.

Not sure what you're saying. In order to schedule an unsupervised backup without password authentication, I have to have Admin...

password authentication

Pardon all my questions, but migration to Big Sur is proceeding a bit haltingly. Your 3.5-beta3 seems to be working very well, but I have a question about copying without password authentication.

Thank you. I wonder if it would be possible to include an indicator of how far along the process is? I assume what's taking so long is rewriting with data preservation, because if you just use Disk...

APFS conversion - how big a beverage?

So I'm using 3.5-beta3 to do an APFS conversion of a 500GB SATA disk. I am told "This could take a long time: you might want to get yourself a beverage." It's taking a very long time. Should I spring...

Thank you. I guess that makes sense. I've always made the boot disk name the same as the machine name, but as you point out, there is no reason that you need to do that. They are completely...

I have two identical iMacs. One that I use routinely (let's call it Joe), and another that I use for other stuff (let's call it Frank). The logic board on Joe crapped out, and Joe is defunct. So I...

I'm planning to upgrade my backup strategy from 3.5" hard disks.

Just out of curiosity, what are the comparative advantages of using a full-up external SSD for backup, as opposed to, say, an SSD...

"Run SuperDuper! Settings" ?

I'm using 10.11.6, and SD 3.3.1.

Never noticed this before, but when I right click on a folder, I'm given the option of "Run SuperDuper! Settings." Duh, what? I select that, and a funny gear...

OK, but I just don't see what it needs to be busy with. I mean, if I have a scheduled backup at 2am, what really needs to happen at 5:00pm, 5:01pm, 5:02pm or 5:03pm? I'm not familiar with how...
