So I checked my hard drive, and the problem exists there, too. So that explains why it was hidden on my backup. I have no idea how my folder would have become hidden (I'm not sure I even know how to...

Dave, looks like you are right about it being hidden. I mounted the image, went to the users folder and did a 'Go to Folder' and typed 'mike'. That opened up my folder and I can see the contents.
